About the manager

Rafael Eduardo Valdez Velásquez-López is a Peruvian archaeologist and editor whose professional career has developed at the intersection of academic research, specialized publishing, and the production of scientific and cultural publications. His experience combines knowledge of social science research processes with a long-standing dedication to publishing (30 years as of 2026), particularly in the field of Peruvian archaeology.

Rafael Eduardo Valdez Velásquez-López holds a degree in Archaeology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), a Master's degree in Publishing from the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Graduate School of the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), and an International Diploma in Project Management based on the Project Management Institute's (PMI) PMBOK Guide, 6th edition. He also has advanced studies in English (Instituto Cultural Peruano-Norteamericano) and German (Goethe-Institut), which complement his training and experience in international academic and publishing circles. His background thus integrates three complementary areas: archaeology, publishing, and project and organizational management.

A substantial part of his professional career is linked to the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), where he spent over 15 years working on academic publications. Of particular note is his involvement (from its inception to 2013), in the editorial production of the Boletín de Arqueología PUCP (existing to the date), a specialized publication that has brought together contributions from Peruvian and international researchers on various periods, regions, and issues within Andean archaeology. This experience encompassed the review of academic manuscripts and the coordination of different components of the process, from submission of a manuscript to its publication.

In the field of archaeology, his research interests have focused primarily on the pre-Hispanic societies of the central coast of Peru. Among the topics he has studied, the Nievería style stands out as one of the most relevant ceramic expressions for understanding the social and cultural processes that occurred during the Middle Horizon in this region. This training as a researcher also forms one of the foundations of his subsequent specialization in publishing, providing him with direct familiarity with the characteristics, demands, and methods of academic production.

Throughout his career, he has developed skills in editing, proofreading, bibliographic standardization, manuscript preparation, editorial consulting, editorial coordination, and the production of books and academic journals. His work has also involved publications for institutions linked to research, archaeology, cultural heritage, and other specialized areas. This experience has allowed him to understand both the needs of authors and researchers and the technical and formal requirements of institutional and scientific publications.

He founded Ediciones Rafael Valdez, a publishing company focused on offering specialized editing and publication production services. His work encompasses the preparation of academic books, monographs, journals, institutional reports, catalogs, and other publications, as well as proofreading, layout, manuscript editing, and support for publishing projects. A key feature of his approach is the combination of editorial experience and academic training, particularly useful for publications requiring specialized treatment of scientific content.

His experience also includes working with bilingual publications and with authors and researchers from diverse backgrounds and specialties, as well as participating in editorial projects that require coordination among authors, editors, translators, designers, and specialists. Overall, Rafael Eduardo Valdez Velásquez-López's career is characterized by the integration of two closely related fields: archaeological research and academic publishing. His experience reflects a sustained dedication to transforming research findings and specialized manuscripts into structured and accessible publications, thereby contributing to the production and dissemination of knowledge about archaeology, heritage, and other fields within the social sciences and humanities. Ediciones Rafael Valdez aims to cover all areas of human knowledge. A specialist who leads teams of specialists.
